Besides the Pokemon card game being really popular one thing which has been very popular in more recent times is that of the Pokemon ds games. Pokemon on the ds replaced the older gameboy games and the gameboy color with a dual screen handheld game.  The dual screen nintendo ds was remade a few different times with different designs to be more appealing with players brighter screen and also more slim designs.

The release date of the Nintendo ds was November 21, 2004 and the Nintendo ds comes with the ability to connect wireless to open internet Wi-Fi internet unlike the older gameboy and gameboy advanced models. The Nintendo ds is also backwards compatible with cartridges from gameboy advanced.

Over the past few years Pokemon ds games have also been releases the very first was Pokemon Diamond and Pearl which released  April 22, 2007 for the US.

The next Pokemon ds game released was Pokemon Platinum that released March 22, 2009. Then during March 14, 2010 the Pokemon ds game HeartGold and SoulSilver was released which was a remake of Pokemon Gold and Silver.

The current and newest Pokemon ds game to be released will be Pokemon X and Y which is scheduled to be released some time in October on the Nintendo 3DS. Pokemon X and Y was announced during January 2013.

The only difference from the type of Pokemon ds games which are released currently is the difference in quality of graphics the older gameboy games are played the same way which include you playing as a main character in the world of Pokemon following a storyline and catching and raising Pokemon as well as the battle system which still allows you to play against other friends and battle or trade.

Some other types of Pokemon ds game where also released which contained slightly different style of play for example Pokemon Dash which was released March 13, 2005 which was a racing game Pokemon themed and was the very first Pokemon game to be released on the Nintendo DS. The object of the game was to control Pikachu and move through checkpoints in the game to complete the course. It allowed up to 6 players to connect and play multi-player.

Pokemon Trozei which was released March 6, 2006 contained many puzzles that where Pokemon themed. This Pokemon ds game is similar to a tetris style game and has gameplay which might remind you of Yoshi's Cookie from Super Nintendo.

Learn with Pokemon: Typing Adventure never was released for the US but it came out for Europe September 21, 2012 which allowed players to capture Pokemon by typing the name of the Pokemon  into a wireless keyboard that was given with the game. At the end of each stage a boss Pokemon appeared like Cobalion or a legendary Pokemon like Zekrom.

Pokemon Rumble Blast was released October 24, 2011 which followed Pokemon Rumble which came out on the WiiWare in 2009. The players Pokemon are used to explore different area's and must battle enemy Pokemon and a boss at the end of each stage of a dungeon. Difficulty of the game increases the farther you play into Pokemon Rumble Blast.

Pokemon Conquest was released June 18, 2012 which is a role-playing strategy Pokemon ds game developed by Tecmo Koei.
