This page is dedicated to the rare pokemon cards of the Neo Discovery Pokemon card expansion. This set contains cards that are unlimited version and 1st edition pokemon cards. 1st edition cards are more rare then that of unlimited pokemon cards. The Most Valuable Pokemon Card in Existence
I'm sure that everyone might have wondered what the most valuable Pokemon card that exist's is and some might think that it would be the first edition shadowless charizard. While that might be true of the English set of Pokemon cards that is not true of the most rare and valuable Pokemon card out of every card.
The most valuable Pokemon card is actually the Pokemon Illustrator card which is the only Pokemon trading card which is a trainer card but does not include trainer in it's title. This card was never released to English and was a promo card which was given out to the players in Japan that had a winning entry in the Pokémon Card Game Illustration Contest during 1997. This contest required fans to draw illustration which would be featured on Pokemon cards.
Only a total of 6 copies exist in the world of this card making it one of the rarest cards that exists. A unique pen symbol is used on one of the corners of the card which cannot be found on any other Pokemon Card.
This card is also called Pikachu Illustrator since the Pokemon in the card art is a Pikachu. Only 4 copies of this card have ever been sold and the most one has ever gone for was $20,000 dollars. Another copy has been on ebay with a price of 100,000 but currently has yet to be sold.
This Pokemon card is considered the Holy Grail of all Pokemon cards. While this is the rarest pokemon card in the collection collectors might think is it a card that is really worth buying. The text on the card itself says:
"We certify that your illustration is an excellent entry in the Pokémon Card Game Illustration Contest. Therefore, we state that you are an Officially Authorized Pokémon Card Illustrator and admire your skill."
I would imagine the real hero's are the orignal artists who competed within the illustration contest not so much the collectors with deep enough pockets to buy the pokemon promo cards. Although that still doesn't make this card any less valuable.
The only sad thing is most collectors will never be able to obtain one with such a low number of cards ever printed so if you manage to have thousands of dollars laying around you might end up lucky enough to own this rare pokemon card.

Helpful information on judging pokemon card worth?
Some people have been wondering if there are more way's of telling about what pokemon card worth is other then some of the information I've provided in the past. And while the Pokemon price list is pretty helpful for figuring out some of the prices there's some really simple ways too.
I talked about first edition Pokemon cards being worth money before but there's one other thing that can make identifying really easy for novice Pokemon collectors. That is whether the Pokemon cards are Wizards of the Coast or Pokemon USA cards. Wizards of the coast produced many of the early series of cards which are the more valuable ones if you have these cards in mint condition these would be the ones you would want to hold onto. First edition cards are another way of knowing Pokemon card worth and these would want to be seprated from the ones that are not first editions.
Holographics are another good sign that you have some really rare cards and many of the Pokemon cards that have value will be holographic. Once you figured these things out for the card you will want to examine the sets that these cards come from. Then you would want to look for error cards just because cards are holographic doesn't mean they aren't an error card many of the early sets of cards contained many art errors within the Pokemon card expansions. And with that said that doesn't mean that there are not normal Pokemon cards which have errors as well. Errors can be anything from the wrong printed artist name to missing evolution's and typo's.
Pokemon card worth also comes down to the collector and who really wants it. Selling a full base set may not pull in as much money as selling one of the cards that 10 collectors only need that one Pokemon card to complete their own personal full sets. This is why do not always assume it is a smart idea to list the full set of any of the Pokemon card expansions.
Not taking Pokemon cards to a hobby shop is a good idea to avoid. Hobby shops usually try to pay bulk for items so they can make money off of what you have. Keeping all of these tips in mind when trying to get pokemon card worth is very important. You can also use ebays search to try and find the exact Pokemon cards that you have so you not only know about the pokemon card worth but you would get an idea how you might go about writting up your very own auctions for these cards.
Also keep in mind that not every valuable card if from the USA either many of the Japanese first editions of Pokemon are very valuable to collectors. So just because you do not understand what is written on the card does not mean you should throw it away either. Make sure you save US and Japanese cards if you find them.
The more rare sets go as follows:
Base Set
Jungle
Fossil
Base set 2
Team Rocket
Gym Heroes
Gym Challenge

Buy Neo Revelations Pokemon Cards
The Neo Revelations expansion came out during 2001 which helped complete the transition for all of the generation II Pokemon into card form's. This set also still contained first edition cards as well as the unlimited sets. At this point in time the Neo Revelations expansion has become quite rare and the prices for these cards has been going up in value at a steady pace. It is becoming harder to buy Neo Revelations unlimited expansions since these cards are pretty old. So set building for them can be a challenge. This expansion also included two rare pokemon cards the shining magikarp and gyarados both of which have very unique card design similar to that of catching the Pokemon from the gameboy game. If you are a collector of Pokemon cards you might want to make sure you get to buy Neo Revelations set before it cannot be obtained anymore. The value of Neo Revelations will only continue to get more expensive like the base set Pokemon cards in the future. I went to the orignal release of these Neo Revelation expansion cards I still remember how much fun it was playing against other people at the Pokemon center in New York City and even though you might not want to play with these cards anymore they still have some pretty amazing designs compared to some of the newest designs the art for Wizards of the Coast cards is much more unique and orignal including not just unique Pokemon card designs but also great backgrounds to the cards themselves.
